Harden to Yellowstone
Theodore Roosevelt NP to Yellowstone
Leaving Medora ND we headed into Montana by route 94 stopping early at Miles City. Our campground for tonight is a Wall-mart. We unhooked and went into town to visit Custer County Art Center which is filled with western art and old photos. We were joined by Jim and Bobbi Matkovich who were also on their way to Bozeman. They are the leaders of the WBCCI caravan to Alaska, with Chellmans as their backup leaders. Both of these folks are residents at TR. Mackovich’s were entering the rally the next day but we were heading toward Hardin to visit the battle site of the Battle of Little Bighorn.
We stayed 2 nights at the Grandview campground, taking in the Big Horn County Historical Museum, and the Battlefield, then onto Yellowstone NP by way of the Beartooth Pass. This has to be one of the most beautiful roads in America. At times the snow was as high as the motorhome on both sides of the road. There was a picture at every turn. I hope I don’t bore you with too many. We entered the park at the north east entrance and on the way in we saw buffalo and antelope and arrived at Mammoth campground around 5pm. luckily there were a few campsites left and we settled right in. An elk and her baby walked right through our campsite several times. What beauty!! We toured the hot springs, and viewed the falls and canyon, and saw bear, many elk and buffalo, moose and mule deer.
Today we took a day for just hanging out and gave Casey and Mickey a long needed bath. Tomorrow June 24th, it will be into Bozeman and the start of the Airstream Rally.
